Former world multiple Boxing Champion, Floyd Mayweather, Jr knocked out MMA fighter, Conor McGregor in Las Vegas via TKO in the 10th round.
Mayweather, now 40 years old hadn’t fought in 714 months took the challenge in a matchup between MMA fighter vs.Professional Boxer.
The match would adhere to Marquis of Queensbury rules. McGregor aged 29 believed he’d have an advantage of age and physical advantage such as reach over Mayweather
The beginning of the bout found McGregor showing impressive boxing skills from his days as an Amateur, and was able to get away with some questionable tactics as throwing rabbit punches.
Mayweather uncharacteristically chose a more aggressive fighting style in the earlier rounds finding McGregor who changed fighting styles and tactics often that Mayweather found daunting.
Although both fighters were in great physical condition, McGregor began to show fatigue after six rounds. A confident began Mayweather began fighting more aggressively and at closer range, backing up McGregor whose punches had less power and found McGregor backtracking.
Mayweather’s punches were finding the mark, staggering a now retreating McGregor in the Eighth and Ninth round.
The tenth round found Mayweather landing a flurry of punches on a now beaten and defenseless McGregor against the ropes and the referee stopped the bout giving Mayweather a TKO victory.
McGregor whose pride and public persona, found difficulty accepting defeat, claiming he was still ready to fight and should have been knocked out.
Conor McGregor was defenseless and was unable to protect himself from Mayweather’s flurry of punches and the referee, rightfully stopped the fight.
The victory increased Mayweather’s professional record to 50 wins without a loss or draw, eclipsing the record of 49-0 by the late boxer, Rocky Marciano.
With that victory Mayweather announced his retirement from boxing.
